Andrew Peterson… I have his music now!
August 5th, 2004 Posted in GeneralThis all goes back to the roadtrip that I took with Geof back at the beginning of May. We were going out to see Caedmon’s Call in Jackson, TN. When we get there, there’s this guy opening for them. He performed a great set and I was thoroughly impressed. In case you were too lazy to go check out his site (and to find his name), this guy is Andrew Peterson. For reaching my first weight goal, I ordered all three of his CDs and have been slowly breaking myself into them over the last two days. From the first disc, Carried Away I have been caught up with the song The Chasing Song. This just seems to boil down to the basics so many of the problems I seem to run into on a regular basis.
This is how the song opens up. I really like the way he turns the words around on themself (he does this quite a bit I’ve noticed). I’m also moved by how closely this speaks to me in my everday life. For me, I have the tendency to ‘prop them up at home’ far too often.
Now and then these feet just take to wandering
Now and then I prop them up at home
Sometimes I think about the consequences
Sometimes I don’tWell, I realize that falling down ain’t graceful
But I thank the Lord that falling’s full of grace
Sometimes I take my eyes off Jesus
And you know that’s all it takesWell, I wish that I could say that at the
close of every day
I was happy with the way that I’m behaving
Here are is the chorus (if you can call two lines a chorus) and another of section of the song that I just really enjoy.
David, he chased God’s own heart
All I ever seem to chase is me
Wee, they say the race can only have one winner
And you know you’ve got to pull out front to win
God knows the only time I’m winning
Is when I’m chasing Him
As I’m working my way through the discs, I’ll probably post up my thoughts on a few of the other songs. I still haven’t made it to Love and Thunder yet, but I’m sure that when I do hearing Family Man will yet again break me down into itty bitty pieces.

That’s okay … “Family Man” messes with me, too.
And now … Andy O’s top five albums for Grassroots Music a while back. Note his comments Andy P’s album and then the parenthetical under his comments on The 77′s. Tee hee hee.

That’s just great. Family Man should hit me sometime tomorrow morning (been doing a disc a day). Hopefully I’m not trying to write too much serious code at that point.
Also, when do I get my DVD of that concert?

I need to invade the Granades’ house and take over Misty’s Mac sometime in the next week. When that’s done, you’ll get the second one I burn.

rick, glad you are enjoying Andrew’s music. he’s my favorite–the way he uses stories and words and makes things fresh still affects me. his cds are rarely far from my player.

As my wife pointed out, his CDs are also not far from my players:
One is in her CD Player in the bedroom.
One is in the DVD player in the living room.
One is in the CD Player in my truck.
That and I have all of them on my harddrive at work playing randomly
