Lately Phoebe has been a bit of an early riser. We’ve had to tell her that during the week her clock needs to have a green “6,” and on the weekends we’d really like it if it had a green “7.” She has this clock from Target that has different colors for each digit. Well, she doesn’t seem to get on the weekends that mom and dad would really like to sleep in. This past weekend, she would come into our room early in the morning and declare that there was a green 6 on her clock, so it’s time to get up! The sun is out, so let’s get up! Saturday I tried to get her to climb into our bed and snuggle.
Sunday morning she came into our room around 6:15, went to Rick’s side of the bed and said, “Daddy, I want to snuggle Mama.” She then climbed into bed and inserted herself between us, put her forehead on mine, and wrapped her sweet little arm around my neck. She also made sure to point out that I had not brushed my teeth yet. I pointed out that neither had she. She stayed that way for maybe 10 minutes or so. It was sweet while it lasted. Then she crawled out of our bed and asked if I needed coffee to wake up.
“Yes, I do need coffee to wake up,” I answered. Then she said, “I need you to come help me make coffee because I can’t do it all by myself.” I sent her to Rick and they both got up and made me coffee.
That was my sweet Sunday morning. I hope to have more like it, even if it means waking up earlier than I’d like.
I know, I haven’t posted in forever. I haven’t wanted to keep on posting without first posting about the tornado outbreak of April 27th. At the same time, I haven’t quite been able to put my thoughts down about that day either. So now, 4 weeks later, I still haven’t posted anything.
The day was scary and long. By the time the worst of the weather hit late afternoon, we were already exhausted from the multiple tornado warnings throughout the day. We spent a lot of time in our closet. We spent one of the warnings in a Chick fil A trying to keep our kids from seeing our worry. Our power went out sometime around lunch time that day and didn’t return til sometime the next Tuesday. The day after we fled once we heard that power wouldn’t be restored for many days. While we wanted to help in our community, that wasn’t going to be easy with two little ones.
We are extremely thankful that we came out the other side ok and with very little property damage. We know there were many who were not so lucky that day.
As I’m writing this, another storm system is set to come through. The local news has told us that there may be pop-up tornadoes, but not in the quantities and the strength we saw that day. I’m sure we will all be a little jumpy at the sound of the tornado sirens for a while.
I know other communities have been affected by this most recent line of storms in the past couple of days. We will keep them all in our prayers.

Thursday this week, My little Sophie-bug turned two! I can hardly believe two years have passed already! She’s grown so much and is turning into quite the sweet, spirited, beautiful little girl! She’s definitely not a baby anymore. Babies can’t draw with sidewalk chalk. 🙂
She loves to draw and color. Her favorite colors at the moment are purple and yellow. She also loves puzzles, playing dress-up, and playing with her sister. As I type this, she’s playing with heir little toy kitchen and talking on the phone that goes with it. She also carries around her baby doll everywhere. This baby’s name is Purple Baby.

On Friday, she had her 2 year well-check amidst the storms. She is currently 34 lbs, 35 inches tall, and her head circumference was 49.5 cm.
Our baby girl is no longer a baby! This afternoon we will have a party with friends to celebrate. 🙂
One thing I haven’t posted about here is that I got braces in January. A week before the brackets went on, I had to get spacers put between my back teeth- these were little rubber bands they inserted between each of my back teeth. My teeth all really hurt for most of that week! I think that hurt worse than getting the braces on! The day I got the braces installed, I did before and after photos using our webcam. .

My teeth really hurt for about a week. I couldn’t eat much more than soup! Even the goldfish crackers hurt to eat! The church dinner that Wednesday night (two days after I got the braces) was fried chicken. Um, yeah, that was sooo not easy. But I made it, and after the first week it definitely settled down. My mouth was still sore after that, but it was different areas. For instance, my front teeth would hurt for a few days, then that would be fine, but then my back teeth would hurt, and so on.
This week I had my first adjustment. It looks like most of my adjustments will be every 6 weeks. So far the adjustment has made it difficult to bite down on food. Otherwise, it’s not too bad. I’m now sporting some super attractive rubber bands in my mouth! I’m supposed to wear the elastics 24/7 for the next 6 weeks, except when I’m eating or brushing my teeth. Since I eat a billion times a day, I end up changing them often! I tried to capture the super attractive rubber bands on Monday in a couple of different ways.
Mirror shot with the good camera, but it focused on the camera. You can still see the elasctics:

And to compare to the before/after shots on the day I got them, a webcam shot:

Couldn’t see the elastics unless I got close to the camera, which made the image kinda weird. Oh well. Maybe I’ll figure out better ways to photograph my teeth over the next couple of years. Or maybe this’ll be the last photograph meant for my teeth, who knows! 🙂
