She’s a Ham!
April 7th, 2008 Posted in Everyday life, familySaturday we decided to do some shopping. I had a Kohl’s coupon burning a hole in my pocket, and a desire to get out of the house. We ultimately decided to go out as a whole family. So off to Kohl’s we went! Once there, Phoebe was strapped into her stroller, facing out rather than in her seat facing us. She had a great time smiling at all of the people who stopped to talk to her! At one point, a lady was talking to her and she kept smiling, and I said, “She’s a ham!” The lady responded with, “Oh, I’m sorry! But you’re still pretty!” I thought, hmm, what an odd thing to apologize for, but then I realized she thought I said, “She’s a him!” So I corrected her, and said, “No, she is a girl. I said she is a ham.” I repeated it a couple of times, but the lady just gave me a confused stare. Finally I gave up and continued with our shopping.
So this was funny to me, but is that term really that odd? How many people don’t know what I’m talking about when I call her a ham?
I leave you with a picture. Just to show her ham-iness.

No, it’s not odd to me at all, but then I’m a ham.

This lady seemed really confused. We found it funny, but I’m definitely puzzled by her being so puzzled.

Ahhh, some people here think you mean the poor kid is “fat!” We’ve encountered this before!

I don’t think the term is odd, but with our group of friends, we’re used to a whole herd of hams being around.
