29 weeks

July 31st, 2007 Posted in General, pregnancy, updates

We’re still hanging in there around here. I went last Saturday to do the 3-hour glucose tolerance test. Getting up early on a Saturday morning, to go start getting your blood drawn at 7:00 am, with no food is definitely not my idea of a fun Saturday morning. Overall, the during part of the test was fine. One of the phlebotomists butchered my right arm (I have a nasty bruise if ya want to see it) during the second blood draw. She didn’t touch me the rest of the day. When we left from the lab, we went straight to get lunch. At which point, I started being hit with horrible back pains. About mid-back, on my left side, I started getting really sharp, pulsing pains. This happened off and on throughout the day Saturday. Sunday, I was ok most of the day, but they returned that night. Monday morning I called the doctor’s office. They had me come in to give a urine sample. Their analysis showed white blood cells, so they sent it off to get cultered. They finally called back today, and the culture came back negative, so it is not a kidney problem. My doctor thinks that it is sciatica. I’m not so sure, since everything I’ve read on the internet about sciatica doesn’t sound like what I’ve got. But they want me to come in on Thursday (the soonest I could get in to see the doctor), to get a physical therapy referral. At 29 weeks, I still have a while to deal with this, and their thought is that it would get worse. If it is a nerve problem, whether it is sciatica or not, I’ll need relief in the meantime.

But, while I was there yesterday leaving my sample, I was informed of my GTT results from Saturday. Out of four blood draws, one of mine had a high blood glucose reading. To get the gestational diabetes diagnosis, you need at least two high readings, so I’ve avoided that diagnosis! They do ask that I have a low-cal, low-carb diet in the meantime, even though I won’t have to go to any classes or anything. I’m not quite sure how I do a low-cal diet while pregnant, but I can probably keep an eye on what kind of carbs I am ingesting. Maybe that will be enough.

And without further ado, here is the 27 week, and 29 week photos. I apologize for not getting one taken last week for the 28 week one. Somehow, it is Rick’s fault, I’m sure. ;)

It is absolutely and utterly Rick’s fault that there is no 28 week photo. I blame him completely.

Glad that your GTT came back the way you wanted, but man … that back stuff is scary.

Yeah, so far, this third trimester thing is not treating me kindly. Though it could be worse..

hang in there sweetie, it won’t be long now and maybe it will get much better. You may have to really do lots of resting from here on our. Nickie had that same problem with her first. So just look at it this way the others won’t be as bad. hehehe. Love ya

Glad to hear about not failing the GTT. Low cal diet, eh? Not sure how that’s going to work out either. Good luck with that one!

The other stuff sounds kind of scary. I hope it gets resolved soon!

It was great seeing you this weekend. Thanks for squeezing me in!

It was not a problem. :) Rick wanted to spend the day reading, and I was perfectly happy to get out of the house for a bit.

Yeah, I do too. Fortunately, it is not constant, and it usually doesn’t stay too long when it does come. So it could definitely be worse.
