27-almost-28-weeks
July 23rd, 2007 Posted in pregnancy, updatesWe did take a 27 week photo last week, I promise! It’s still on the camera. I’ll probably take another one for 28 weeks tomorrow, so maybe later this week you’ll get a two-fer!
New developments: I forgot to mention on my 26 week post that I had outgrown my wedding band. Yes, my fingers have swollen enough I can no longer wear it. I did buy a cheap band to wear in the meantime though. I also think I felt hiccups this past weekend! I thought it was kicking, until I realized it was a steady, regular feeling for a bit. It was only slight though.
Today I had my 28 week appt. I got the lovely Rhogam shot today. I also had my glucose screening test, and while doing that they tested my iron levels. The shot was not too bad. It stung a bit, and I was sore for a while this morning afterwards, but not too horrible. I, unfortunately, failed the glucose screening test. It is supposed to be less than 140, and mine was at 181. So this weekend I get to do the 3 hour glucose-tolerance test to make sure I do not have gestational diabetes. The doctor seemed to think that today’s screen was a false positive. Also, my iron was a little low, so I get to start taking iron pills. But I expected that one. I did not expect to fail the glucose one.
In other news, I gained 8 lbs. between this appt. and the last. That puts me to about +17 lbs. pre-pregnancy gain. I’m still within that 1-2 lbs./week that is considered ok, just on the high end.
The doctor or nurse didn’t have anything to say about it. My plan is to continue to not worry about it until then.
I go back on the 7th. I should find out about my glucose tolerance test then. Fortunately, I don’t need anymore shots until after the birth.

Well, that stinks. I hope that it’s a false positive!

Yes it does stink. I’m still a little suprised by it, actually. I plan on doing the GTT Saturday morning so that I don’t have to miss a day of work to do it. It’s only 3 hours, but I may be sick afterwards. I’m not sure how that will affect me in the blogathon.

Be sure to let me know if there is anything I can do to help. If you don’t feel well on Sunday, don’t feel guilty. Just let me know, and we can move our coffee date. However, my fingers are crossed that you don’t feel sick.

I think by Sunday I’ll feel fine. I had a 5 hour one done once 3 years ago, and I remember feeling bad for the rest of the day. I’m not sure if the 3 hour one will affect me as badly as the 5 hour one did. However, I only expect to feel bad on Saturday, either way. Hopefully not though. I’m still a little bummed that I have to go, and I’m maybe a little worried that I’ll fail this one too. I really don’t want to have to alter my diet. But of course, who ever does?
