Links
June 12th, 2007 Posted in linky, local newsAgain I find myself emailing links to my mom and Rick, and I wonder, why don’t I just make a post?
First, I’ll start off with the cuteness:
This is the cutest picture ever! I’ll have to watch Rick and make sure that he doesn’t read any of his technical books to Smudge this way!
Well, maybe not if it does help her to sleep…
Then I’ll move to the seriousness:
The county-wide half cent sales tax was voted down in the commissioners’ meeting yesterday. I’m a little torn on this. I know that my commissioner did vote the tax down, because he did not agree with where the school board wanted to put a school in our area. While I agree that the school board’s plan was not ideal, we still need something. Perhaps it would have helped. Granted the tax hike probably would not have passed anyway in yesterday’s vote, but it is a little frustrating. And that is one downfall of living in the county – we have to have a county wide tax hike to get more money for the schools. The cities have a few other options, whether or not they would pass as well. But this tax increase will go to the entire county for vote in February. It will be interesting to see what happens in that vote. I will note, that I’m really not interested in politics, so a few of you may have some better thought-out thoughts on this issues.

I can see Rick’s future…uh huh…technical manual needs reading…baby needs snuggle time at bedtime…mommy wants to finish dishes….end result baby gets read technical manual while mommy does dishes, but has to pause and smile at her family. Too precious and priceless.
We need another elementary, middle, and high school here in this area. Wonder if it will ever happen, considering we’re expanding so rapidly.

Sounds good en ough to me!
You’re right. You guys will have the same problems. There will only be more expansion with BRAC.

Well, I’m of two minds on the sales tax:
1. I hate taxes on consumption that don’t bypass grocery items, because that puts an undue tax burden on the poor.
2. The sales tax is the only way to increase taxes without going to the voters in this area, who are too parsimonious and un-trusting to ever vote for an increase, despite the fact that our revenue base is one of the weakest in the country.
As for the photo … too bad Rick didn’t wait a year to do the PE exam prep.
[Hey Rick, do you have your certificate yet? When are you taking a photo and posting that here, champ?!]
By Rick on Jun 17, 2007
The certificate has been sitting on my desk at work now for a couple of months. The more impressive part is that I already have my new business cards in with the P.E. tacked on (which is good since I’d never gotten around to getting them in the first place).
I’ll think about trying to put together a picture of some sort… maybe…. sometime.
