Really angry
November 22nd, 2006 Posted in GeneralThe very last page of this article mentions that Westboro Baptist Church plans to demonstrate at the funerals of the kids killed in the bus crash that occurred on Monday. This church just bugs me anyway, but I don’t understand why in the world they would pick this event to demonstrate at? And yes, I found their announcement on their page that “explains” the reason, but I still don’t understand. I’m not going to bother to leave a link, if you’re curious enough you can google it and find it on their site.
What happened here Monday was incredibly tragic. These kids’ funerals should not be demonstrated. The families need our prayers and support more than anything right now. Of course, the same goes for the soldiers’ funerals these guys protest as well. It’s just sick. I don’t understand how anyone expects to bring believers to God by hate. It just makes no sense to me.

I don’t want to know their rationale, because no matter what it is, it won’t be good enough. How irritating.

Trust me, they really have no rationale. They look for high profile functions to attend in the hopes of getting the publicity, which is one reason I didn’t want to link. Another is that I highly do not agree with them and don’t want anyone to think such!

Jessica: The WBC folks are hypercalvinists, and as such, don’t believe in evangelism at all. They just see themselves as God’s prophetic people; most every WBC member thinks that only WBC members are the elect.

Bah, I still don’t understand the mindset.
In any case, I heard that their permit was two blocks away from the funeral(s? not sure if that applied to both they were planning on protesting) and there were buses parked in front of them.

Well, their mindset is pretty hard to rationalize with anything the rest of us know as Christianity. They’ve made the leap to cult status [I'd argue that they made it with the edict that you can't marry outside the church; they only have 150-ish members, so there's lots of familial intermarrying going on].
And as far as what happened with their protest, that’s what the paper reported. Also, there was a tasteful and appropritate counter-protest.
