Another Year… More Stuff To Do

August 9th, 2006 Posted in General

So it was a full year ago that I posted on here, overwhelmed by all the stuff I had signed up for and committed to doing, in general and at church.

This year is no different, but after a year, it is quite a bit less stressful.

So today is back to being the Wednesday of doom. It was our first night back to Wednesday night suppers and RA’s. Our new class is still taught by the same three guys that were in there last year, but now we’re teaching the 4th-6th grade boys rather than just the 3rd & 4th graders. (which means that it’s the same group as last year plus a few 6th graders).

At this time last year, I was questioning my decision.

Tonight, I know that I made the right decision to come back again.

Also today, we ran our second IEEE GOLD Technical meeting of the year. We had Kevin Schneider from Adtran come out and speak to us about the past, present, and future of telecommunications. It was a great presentation with around 35 people in attendance. It was really neat and a succesful event.

Soccer starts back in tomorrow night (practice) and I start learning this weekend about being a deacon and also about what my new role on the recreation committee will be at work.

I’ve still got all my usual TBP stuff coming up the fall (but will have some help as two additional directors should be in place… one this weekend and one in October).

So, for another year, I’m committed all over the place, but I feel like I have a much better handle on it this year and at least to this point I’m having a lot more fun with it all too!

Oh yeah, I’ve still got to study and relearn all my fundamental engineering principles to take the 8-hour Principles of Engineering (PE) exam at the end of October.

So, as I said, I’m enjoying all of this, but if I’m a bit frazzled at times, this post should explain at least a bit of it.

So you aren’t allowed to join or commit to anything else. :)

I am glad you are going to be a deacon though.

C’mon … you told me a couple weeks ago when we drove to Nashville that you were doing the right thing with the church stuff. ;)

I’m just wondering when you’ll decide that the TBP stuff is fun but not worth all the time away. It’s like the hockey broadcasting: I’d love to do it, but the travel is just brutal. The whole thing is insidious …

I think the TBP will go away once we have a solid team ready to work at the district level without me. We have talked about getting an alumni chapter started here in town, and that is, I think, more of where I would like to be in terms of working with the organization.

At this point though, I don’t think there’s much of a way that I’ll stop doing SOMETHING with TBP.

Hey, I don’t figure that you’ll quit cold turkey. I mean, I’m all about taking over as PA announcer at UAH games. ;)
