Last week the girls and I packed up and went to my parent’s house for the week. We had a busy, fun, exhausting week visiting family and generally having a great time. The photos for this trip can be found here in my mom’s picasaweb. I’ll link to a few highlights throughout this post as well. Sophie started sleeping through the night. Phoebe started climbing out of her bed to avoid sleep. She even drove a Rhino! Lots of grand times!

Speaking of Phoebe climbing, she climbed into everything. She climbed into her high chair when she wanted to eat. One day she climbed in, holding a paper plate, and asked my mom “More, please,” waving the paper plate the whole time. Because, you know, we never feed her enough. One night I put her to bed. She cried for a bit and then got quiet. I figured I would wait for a while to check on her to make sure she was still in the bed rather than up and playing. Because had she been on the way to sleep and I checked on her before she was all the way there, then the crying would start all over again, and we definitely wanted to avoid that. Well, after a little bit she started really, really crying. I went in to check on her, and she had climbed into a double stroller that was sitting in that room. “Uh-oh,” she said as me, my mom, and my dad went to check on her. I ended up having to lay down with her to get her to calm down enough to go to sleep, though she never really fell asleep with me in the bed with her.

Phoebe was just the life of the party for the week. My parents got her a little zebra pool. It had a slide and his nose was supposed to be a sprinkler. She, however, freaked if we turned the sprinkler on, and would cheer “Yay!” when we turned it back off. She did love the slide though. Which led to much lifting of a 30 lb. toddler onto the slide for another “again!” She loved her pool so much that one day she decided to get into it with complete shoes, socks, clothes, and regular diaper (man can those hold water)! My dad wanted to see how far she’d go on her own. Well, now we know! And we got photographic evidence.

We also went fishing. You can see in the photos that I am not the best of fisherwomen. At one point, our cork was stuck in the weeds (actually the cork was in the water, but my line was stuck in the weeds on the bank). Phoebe very quickly outsourced her fishing to Granddaddy. Phoebe spent much of her fishing time finding a “chair.” Which meant she found every empty seat on a gator she could to sit on. At least she got some friends to join her. We even got to feed the fish! I spent much of this time and the remainder of the fishing trip keeping Phoebe from jumping into the 30 ft deep water. She even threw her leg over mine when I tried to block her from jumping. Sophie spent her time fishing hanging out watching.

The last weekend was my ten year reunion for Lafayette High School. We went to the family picnic on the playground as well as a dinner that same night. There were other events as well that we didn’t make it to. It was so nice seeing everyone. I didn’t have my camera, but there are photos that other people took up on facebook. I’m so glad that they invited me to their reunion, even though I graduated from MSMS. I grew up with people from LHS and I definitely enjoyed seeing them all again and hearing what everyone is up to these days. We had a great time!

The week didn’t end without some pretty spectacular storms. Oxford was under a tornado warning Friday night and then we got more bad storms Sunday morning. Mom managed to capture the storm rolling in on Sunday. Friday night looked that way as well, but she didn’t get the camera in time to capture the line of clouds as they came in. The one she did capture from Friday was pretty menacing still, though. We all made it through ok. No tornadoes where we were, luckily.

We came back to Huntsville Sunday night. I’m still working on getting us all unpacked. Slow and steady progress is fine with me. I’m so glad that I got to spend a whole week with the girls while I’m off work. I’m also glad that my parents were able to take much of the week off. These pictures only capture a fraction of the fun we had.

Today we had Sophie’s 2 month well check. Our poor baby got 3 shots and an oral immunization! Even worse, we found out that both of her ears are infected! Much like Phoebe, she hasn’t run any fever to indicate that something may be wrong. Her nose hasn’t really consistently been runny either. I can hope that maybe this is part of her fussiness lately and maybe she’ll feel better with some antibiotics and be a happier baby. I can hope, anyway. That being said, we have more good days than bad, so it’s not that bad. Additionally, she’s been sleeping through the night this past week, so we’re pretty lucky in that regard. Ok, onto the stats:
Weight: 12 lb. 12 oz
Height: 24 inches.
Head circumference: 40 cm.

The gist of this is that she’s growing very well! She’s still a big baby, but her growth is in line with her birth weight. Other than her ears, she’s doing very well physically and developmentally.

Sometime soon I’ll post about our week in Mississippi. I should have lots to share!
